Move: Kinetic art can be defined as the observation of installations that move or contain moving parts. It is quite a niche in the world of fine art: quite tangible, and usually fragile. The mobility of the artworks, or parts of it, makes it not only dynamic to view, but provides a metaphor for stretching time, style and culture.

One interesting aspect of kinetic art is the rather flirtatious relation with technology; from early work using mechanical and material characteristics to modern work using electronics and computers. This relation, in its turn, connects kinetic art and robotic art, installations and media art. Kinetic art is responsive to its environment in its movement, but sometimes the movement itself results in light, sound or other effects. In the work of Michiel van Bakel, subtle movements in the environment are made visible on the surface of a liquid.

This exhibition is a selection of kinetic art of Dutch and Belgian artists, some of which were involved in previous projects of MAD emerging art center. The visitors can enjoy a spectrum of kinetic art, and discover various artistic approaches of movement. MOVE is the starting point for a project to further research and explore kinetic art in Eindhoven.
