Concept

Mixed Realities: The exhibition focusses on the integration of real and virtual worlds where the digital and physical co exist and interact to create virtual storytelling experiences. Through the vehicle of video art, gaming, augmented reality, augmented virtuality, virtual reality and hybrid reality, artists become the authors of interactive worlds. The discipline of mixed reality allows artists to partake in “an ongoing process of human collaboration where individuals experience and express realities, mediated by technology and their collaborators” (Sareika). Mixed Realities introduces a collection of new virtual environments, traditional media being transformed and a variety of co cepts on reality brought to existence through different technologies. The exhibition explores perceptions and states of mind as we shift between the simulated world of the digital age and the real world we inhabit. Technology breaks down physical barriers, allowing the artist to be a conversational agent with a virtual canvas.

The exhibition also explores how video manipulation technologies impact our trust in concepts of reality. How will our current reality be perceived, experienced and altered through new mixed media technologies in the nearby future? Mixed and virtual reality redefine the boundaries of the conventional. We aim to use art in its digitised form to explore how mixing realities through technology can refresh conversations on various social issues, whilst distorting that which is instinctual to our current tangible existence.
